Bitcoin is trading near $103,190, with daily gains of 1.4%, as markets digest Galaxy’s updated forecast. The institutional investment firm cut its 2025 Bitcoin target from $185,000 to $120,000, citing a transition toward what it calls the “maturity era.” This new phase, the firm says, will be defined by lower volatility, slower appreciation, and greater institutional involvement.
Galaxy’s research note pointed to the $19 billion liquidation event on October 10, sparked by tariff tensions between the US and China, as a key driver behind the target revision. The sudden deleveraging weakened liquidity and dented investor confidence, dragging Bitcoin briefly below $100,000 for the first time in six months.
Meanwhile, competing assets such as gold and AI-linked equities have diverted capital from Bitcoin, while the rise of stablecoins has further reshaped investor attention in the crypto market.

Galaxy analyst Alex Thorn wrote that Bitcoin’s next growth stage will rely more on institutional absorption than retail enthusiasm.
“Passive inflows and structured investment vehicles will define Bitcoin’s next chapter,” he said. Retail interest, which peaked during the 2021 bull run, remains muted despite brief revivals driven by meme coin speculation.
The firm also noted a cooling effect on Bitcoin treasury companies, public firms that once tracked BTC’s price trajectory. As price momentum slows, these companies will need to focus on operational growth rather than speculative valuation gains tied to Bitcoin holdings.

A drop below $102,000, however, risks testing the $97,600–$95,000 range, key psychological levels for traders.
